Josie Calderon-Scott


Josie Calderon-Scott, Principal of JLC Consultants, has for over 25 years been providing strategic communication services for clients involving energy, transportation, water, and community development projects emphasizing building public support and overcoming opposition. She has developed and implemented successful public relations and community outreach programs by identifying target audiences, shaping the agenda of debate, activating supporters, and getting the most controversial projects approved. Ms. Calderon is a highly regarded public affairs consultant with a history of collaborating with the local, state, and federal government, its public officials and stakeholders in achieving favorable results and the successful completion of numerous projects for municipal, city and public works agencies.

As a community advocate, Ms. Calderon is committed to promoting a favorable business climate, advancing economic development and promoting equal opportunity. She strides towards advancing economic and social prosperity in the region through increased community advocacy, empowerment and education. Improving the quality of life of historically underrepresented communities is a long standing commitment to Josie. She accomplishes this through active participation and leadership on key boards and commissions including the: San Diego Mayor’s Civic Leadership Team, Community Housing Works Board, Living Coast Discovery Center Board, San Diego Women’s Leadership Forum, San Diego Foundation’s Our San Diego Regional Vision Council, Caltrans Small Business Council, City of San Diego SLBE Liaison Group; and business focused groups such as the San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, South County EDC Public Policy and Transportation & Infrastructure Committees, San Diego County Taxpayers Association Transportation, Energy, Water & Infrastructure Committees, and Scripps Mercy Board of Advisors

Also, as President of MABPA for over 10 years, Ms. Calderon has lead the organization through many challenges and many accomplishments on issues related to education, economic development, affordable housing, environmental justice, small business advocacy, and the Health Care Safety Net. Her efforts have led to numerous recognition receptions that celebrate leadership and accomplishments in underserved communities. Through her leadership, dedication and board support, MABPA has become a model organization comprised of leaders that are making a difference in bringing prosperity to our communities.

Ms. Calderon was named Small Business Leader of the Year for the 78th Assembly District by Assemblymember Marty Block and recently received a Visionary Volunteer award by the Philippine American Business Improvement & Development at their STAR Blazers & Top Hats Gala for her advocacy for small business.
