Business Committee Chair
Edward Barbat is a local businessman, attorney and business advocate who works with clients primarily in and around San Diego County. He is a San Diego native and had the good fortune of growing up in a family of entrepreneurs who instilled in him the spirit and drive that are necessary for achieving the “American Dream”. Mr. Barbat is a product of local public and private schools, and he attended the University of San Diego where he graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
As the Founder, Principal, and Managing Partner of the Law Offices of Edward F. Barbat, Mr. Barbat specializes in legal, financial, and intellectual property issues for start-up companies and small/medium-sized businesses. His areas of expertise include small business, corporate, general business, cross-border transactions, commercial real estate leasing and sales, permitting, consulting on entity formation, export/import, land use and real estate development. Mr. Barbat’s legal expertise and small business insight have been acknowledged by educational institutions and associations. Mr. Barbat graduated with a Juris Doctorate degree from the George Washington University Law School located in Washington, D.C. and was selected as a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association Quarterly Journal, and as a Legal Fellow for the George Washington University Small Business Clinic. His professional affiliations include La Raza Lawyers Association, and the Mexican American Business and Professional Association (MABPA). Mr. Barbat was nominated by Councilmember Ben Hueso and appointed by Mayor Jerry Sanders to serve as a Representative with Legal Expertise for the City of San Diego’s Small Business Advisory Board. He is also an alternate member of the Technical Advisory Committee for the City of San Diego’s Development Services Department.
